Cypress Mountain - Official 2010 Winter Games Venue
In 2010, the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are coming to Vancouver. And while Vancouver and Whistler are the official co-hosts, West Vancouver is a proud Venue City and the home to Cypress Mountain. Cypress is the official freestyle skiing and snowboard venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Freestyle skiing events include aerials, moguls and ski cross, while snowboard events include half-pipe, parallel giant slalom and snowboard cross. Some of the biggest potential stars of the Games - such as Canadian moguls skier Jennifer Heil and American snowboarder Shaun White are expected to be going for gold on the slopes of Cypress.
Visitors to the North Shore can head up to Cypress any time to have a look at the venues where history will be made in February of 2010. Rideout says many have already made the trip up to the ski resort to see what they can expect. "If you do come up you can actually see the venues. For example, the freestyle venue comes right down to the edge of the parking lot so you can literally drive up."
Cypress also boasts a 48,000-square-foot alpine lodge that was officially opened Dec. 14, 2008. With everything in place, Cypress is ready for the Games, says Rideout. "It gets you excited because you can kind of visualize what's going to take place in 2010."
