There has been a lot of buzz about the Olympics and the Torch Relay coming to Vancouver. The Torch will also stop in Deep Cove on February 10th, 2010, and we have planned a community celebration.

Over the last few months the Deep Cove Merchants Association (DCMA) has been working with local schools to help create excitement for the Torch Relay in Deep Cove.

Deep Cove Torch Relay Celebration Events 10:30am - 12:00pm

Art Project - three local schools have created a 75' banner with the flags of the participating nations of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Drama Project - under each lamppost a vignette of three Seycove Drama students will take on the persona of an Olympic Athlete and give the Athletes' story. The drama club has paired with the English Club to create these vignettes and they will rotate thru the Cove on the morning of February 10th.

Seycove Choir - will be on hand to sing O'Canada and other great hits!

Photography Club - will be on hand to record the community Torch Relay celebration.

Other FUN info:

Kristina Egyed - from LaLa's will be a Torch Bearer on February 10th at 6:15pm in the Capilano area. After her run the torch will be at LaLa's, so come by and hold a piece of the Games.

LaLa's sells BC and North Vancouver Olympic products. Beautiful Four Host Nation textiles, knit wear and cravings as well as Kootney Knitting Company hats, scarves, and sweaters. Oh, and of course the usual FUNky FUNtastic Fashion Forward stuff the Locals love.

What's Happening in Deep Cove During the Games:

Arms Reach Bistro - will have a $35 set menu that will be winter inspired and will continue with Tuesday Night Jazz.

Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak Centre - February 5th to March 21st, 2010
Daily-guided tours exploring Vancouver's wilderness by sea kayak. This is a unique opportunity to view BC's snow capped mountains and native wildlife from sea level. Clear water and crisp air is why winter offers some of the year's best paddling. Knowledgeable guides will interpret the local history and reveal the natural beauty of Canada's southernmost fjord. Phone: 604-929-2268.

Room6 - will be showcasing Canadian design talent (as always) with an emphasis on handmade in BC for the months of Feb/March. There will be lots of one of a kind, locally made goodies available. The Monster Factory dolls (handmade in Toronto) will be showing their Canadian pride with maple leaf hockey jerseys (handmade in North Vancouver) and will be included with purchase. Additionally, Room6 offers the option of shipping "special things for nice people" so if folks are traveling light, we can ship purchases back home. (shipping charges apply).

Seymour Art Gallery - the exhibition that is running during Games time is thematically appropriate. The exhibition is titled "Winter Prints" and it is by Maxie von Schwerin. It is a collection of various prints of different sizes and colours all focused on winter scenes. "Winter Prints" is on from February 9 to March 7, 2010.

Deep Cove Heritage Society will have a display celebrating Heritage Week in the lobby of the Deep Cove Cultural Centre. The Centre is open 7 days a week from 10-5 with the Seymour Art Gallery and Treasure Cove Gift Shop open as well. The Heritage Office will be open Monday and Wednesday from 10-2 and when volunteers are available. If you see our door open, stop in and say "Hi".

Deep Cove Shaw Theatre - The Memory of Water, a drama by Shelagh Stephenson will be at the Deep Cove Shaw Theater during the Olympics so come and enjoy local theater that can handle international attention.
