Vancouver's North Shore Outdoor Winter Activities

December 2008

(North Vancouver, BC): The snow is falling, the kids are out of control with excitement and you are looking for somewhere to go so you can all enjoy the holiday season while the kids let off a little steam. how about right here at home, just across the bridge on Vancouver's North Shore. Here are just a few ideas to keep the entire family happy

The Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain

This year the festive fun is there for all to enjoy until January 5th. Santa has set up his workshop so the little once can see how the jolly old elf spends his days. The reindeer are on hand to share some of their holiday cheer. Skating atop Vancouver's iconic mountain top is never more enjoyable than under the shining stars that fill the December skies. Did you know you could Zip Trek on Grouse. the new 1-hour experience is ready and waiting for all those daring souls who want to zip high above the city of Vancouver.  And, of course, the slopes are ready and waiting for skiers of all ages to whoop, shushe and glide their way down the slopes.  For more information see www.grousemountain.com.

Skiing, Snowshoeing, Tobogganing and Tubing

Both Seymour and Cypress mountains offer a myriad of wintertime fun. When was the last time you slid down a hill on your backside (hopefully with a toboggan or tube under to cushion the trip), or snowshoed under the evening stars. A simple trip across either of the North Shore bridges will lead you to countless memories for you and your family to share for years to come.   Seymour has tubing and tobogganing each weekend day from 10:00 - 4:00. Fro the early birds in the crow, tubing start at 9:00 AM on Cypress and runs until 4:00 daily. For the snowshoers in the crowd, nothing beats an evening stroll under a starry ski with a mug of hot chocolate to keep anyone's toes warm. Ski lessons for the young and old alike are a perennial favourite at both mountains. For more information on these amazing family adventures, contact www.mountseymour.com or www.cyrpessmountain.com

Don't forget the Bridge and the Canyon Lights

We all enjoy seeing the Christmas lights twinkling in the dull December light. Nowhere is this a more spectacular sight than at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Canyon Lights is a spectacular showing of 200,000 of the season's most festive lights. Everything is lit up throughout the park for this winter celebration of light.  To keep the happy little wasellers busy there are gingerbread decorating workshops and glass blowing children's craft activities, all included in park admission.
