January 2009

(North Vancouver): The new Destination Management Organization (DMO), Vancouver's North Shore Tourism Association on Vancouver's North Shore will play an important role in future planning as the tourism industry on the North shore continues to thrive and grow. (North Vancouver) The new Destination Management Organization (DMO), Vancouver's North Shore Tourism Association on Vancouver's North Shore will play an important role in future planning as the tourism industry on the North shore continues to thrive and grow.

One key goal of this young organization is to bring awareness of the tourism possibilities to the media throughout the world. In an effort to reach further afield with media, VNSTA has brought Jane Ince, Public and Media Relations Specialist on to the team. Jane will work with to ensure the North Shore is top of mind for Vancouver visitors.  "This is a key time for all of us in BC as we head towards the 2010 Winter Olympics." says Jane Ince.  "We have the torch running though our beautiful communities, showcasing the North Shore to the world. We have many of the events being held during the Olympics in our midst. We need to leverage all that is good on the North Shore, ensuring our message gets out. We are the spot where nature lives in Vancouver."  Quick access to partners in the tourism industry currently servicing the North Shore, as well as an on-line image library will make VNSTA a handy resource for any member of the media wishing to feature this area.

Accommodation on the North Shore of Vancouver are varied and perfectly suited to any type of traveler. From cozy "bed and breakfasts" to economical motel-style properties, as well as full-service hotels, any travelers' needs can be met. Because Vancouver's North Shore is just across the bridge and minutes away from downtown, visitors wanting to get back to the energy of the city can easily make the short jaunt to all downtown activities. The Sea Bus, or walk-on ferry, is a fun way to get from one shore to the other, giving visitors another view of this city's majestic setting.

When winter turns the deep blue-green of the mountains to a shimmering white, the snow covered mountains offer up a whole new selection of activities. Skiing or boarding on the three local mountains, all within an hour's drive from downtown makes it easy to get away from the city's pace to enjoy the slopes for the day. Snow shoeing is an excellent way to work out the kinks. Old fashioned sledding and tobogganing cannot be forgotten. However, the updated version of tubing on the snow is a winter romp not to be missed. Seymour, Cypress and Grouse mountains are the winter playgrounds for many locals and visitors all winter long.
