29jun8:00 pmNorth Shore Jazz: Sonny Landreth

Event Details

Each summer Capilano University presents North Shore Jazz as part of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival in venues throughout the North Shore. The yearly line-up features an eclectic mix of stellar artists at venues including The BlueShore at Cap, Presentation House Theatre and the Kay Meek Centre plus free concerts at the Civic Plaza, Lynn Valley Village and the West Vancouver Memorial Library.

Eric Clapton has called him one of the most advanced – and underappreciated – guitarists in the world. After moving from Mississippi to Louisiana as a young boy in the 1950s, Sonny Landreth was brought up in the epicentre of a golden era of zydeco, blues, jazz and roots. Mentored by zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, Landreth developed a mesmerizing slide guitar technique – changing keys, rhythms and musical styles in a flash, earning him the moniker, “King of the Slydeco.” Landreth’s solo albums span (and often blur) blues, zydeco, folk, country and jazz, and he’s played with John Hiatt, John Mayall and Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, among others.
