Tsleil-Waututh Cultural Arts Festival

The Tsleil-Waututh Cultural Arts Festival takes place at Cates Park (Whey-ah-Wichen) on August 21st from 12-7pm. Come celebrate Indigenous culture, community and connection to its territory.

Festival Highlights Include:

The Cultural Arts Festival features a Mainstage, children’s program, Elder’s Storytelling, traditional dance, Youth hiphop showcase, demonstrations of ancient technologies, guided trips in traditional-style canoes by Takaya Tours (see below), and traditional Coast Salish foods.

The entertainment line-up includes: JUNO Winner and world champion DJ Shub, JUNO Winner Crystal Shawanda, Children of Takaya and hosted by MCs Andrea Menard and Gabriel George.

Takaya Tours Paddle

1pm | 2pm | 3:30pm | 4:30pm
Cost $20

You can pre-purchase tickets for a Coast Salish Ocean-going Canoe Tour. First Nation guides will sing songs and share the history of Burrard Inlet while participants paddle in the canoes. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult and be 8 years old and/or 4′ tall.

Getting to the Festival

There will be a free bike valet on site, and a shuttle bus from Tsleil-Waututh Community Centre. If you are taking public transit, route #212 from Phibbs Exchange drops you right at Cates Park, or you can take #211 to Dollar Shopping Centre and walk 400 metres. Check transit schedules. There is also plenty of  parking at Cates Park, but it will likely fill up.
