British Columbia sees it’s fair share of the wet weather. As we head back into Fall it’s time to unpack our raincoats. Our outdoor activities are open whatever the weather for those adventurers who don’t mind getting wet. However, there are plenty of fun rainy day activities available on Vancouver’s North Shore for those of you who want to stay dry.

1.Warm Up With a Hot Chocolate

Temper Pastry is a mouth-wateringly delicious chocolate and pastry shop in the neighbourhood of Dundarave. The patisserie offers the finest cakes, galettes, tarts, croissants, chocolate truffles, bon bons and, of course, hot chocolate. Their signature hot chocolate makes for a perfect pit stop after wandering Dundarave’s antique stores and boutiques.

2. Immerse yourself in North Vancouver History

Learn the story of North Vancouver’s rise from an isolated logging town to today’s dynamic urban community at the North Vancouver Museum and Archives. The museum hosts a permanent exhibition chronicling the past 150 years on Vancouver’s North Shore and currently has interactive exhibitions highlighting North Vancouver’s history as a maritime community.

3. Take a Class

Want to keep active out of the rain? You’re in luck! Vancouver’s North Shore has a number of unique exercise classes to keep your indoor workout fun! Try Distrikt Movement for their “Ugly Sweaters” and “Triple Sweat” classes, Moksha Yoga for meditation and yoga classes (check out their Live Music Yoga to experience some local musicians while you downward dog), or the high energy Barre Fitness that combines strength training with postures from ballet.

4. A Taste of the North Shore

Duck out of the rain and into the Lonsdale Quay Market for a taste of 80 fresh food vendors, independent boutiques, artisans, and restaurants. The market is covered giving you the chance to dry off and fuel up.

5. Get Above the Clouds

Head above the clouds by checking out the mountaintop activities on one of Vancouver’s North Shore Mountains: Cypress Mountain, Mount Seymour, and Grouse Mountain. Check their websites to see what the weather is like at the top before starting your journey.

8. Hit the Shops

Go to Park Royal in West Vancouver to shop ‘til you drop. Park Royal offers over 200 stores, restaurants and services in both indoor and outdoor settings. You also get four hours of free parking so you can be outside as much, or as little, as you like!

9. It’s Raining, We’re Pouring

Vancouver’s North Shore is incredibly fortunate to have five great craft breweries. If you’re feeling hungry, you may want to stop into Bridge Brewing’s kitchen with a taco menu made from locally sourced ingredients. As well as enjoying the great food and beers you can also feel good about yourself, as Bridge Brewing is a zero-waste facility. They’ve even created ‘Rye Cycle’—a beer made from unsold bread that was destined for landfill.
