Wondering what to do when you visit Vancouver’s North Shore this summer? Of course we are known for our abundance of outdoor activities, but North Vancouver is also home to top attractions, great shopping and lots of great places to eat.

We have created a top 10 list to help you decide what to do when visiting North Vancouver and West Vancouver this summer. These are our recommendations for must-see and must do.

Free summer festivals on the North Shore include: the Caribbean Days in July, Harmony Arts Festival in August and the Coho Festival in September. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays you will find many free outdoor summer concerts in North Vancouver.

Drop by the Shipyards Night Market at Shipbuilder’s Square on Friday evenings (May to October) from 5-10pm. Food trucks, beer garden, market vendors, live entertainment and more. Free admission

Cates Park, Whytecliff Park, Ambleside and Dundarave beaches are all popular spots to soak up the sun and go for a swim in the ocean. Pack a picnic or pick up some food from the park concessions.

Lynn Canyon Park is a great place to beat the summer heat. You can walk across the Suspension Bridge and take in Twin Falls or dip your feet in the 30-foot pool. Visit the Ecology Centre to see informative, interactive displays. Stop a the Lynn Canyon Cafe for some refreshments before or after your hike. FREE

Enjoy the ocean breeze as you paddle the scenic waters of Indian Arm. You can rent ocean kayaks, stand up paddleboards (SUP), surf skis and canoes. There is also a wide range of lessons and tours. Then wander through the charming waterfront village of of Deep Cove, and try some of the the best donuts on the North Shore – available at Honey’s.

The ocean breeze will keep you cool as you walk the scenic West Vancouver Seawall, which stretches from Ambleside to Dundarave. There are concessions at Ambleside and Dundarave Beaches if you are in of refreshments. You can also head into the villages of Ambleside or Dundarave where you will find plenty of cafes, coffee shops and restaurants.

9. Visit Lonsdale Quay Market

Stop in at the Lonsdale Quay Market for lunch or cool treat. Explore the market, then sit out on the patio and enjoy the view. There is plenty to do during SummerFest at the Market. Stop by the Green Leaf Brewing to sample some local craft beer on the patio.

The North Shore is famous for its mountain biking trails. You will find trails for all experience levels, and you can always get a local bike tour company like Endless Biking to show you around.
