The Shipyards

Over the past decade, Lower Lonsdale’s award-winning waterfront has been transformed into a unique, interactive, year-round destination that includes over 85,000 square feet of commercial and community amenity space. The Shipyards features restaurants, cafes, shops and services, two boutique hotels, space for community events, concerts and markets, plus the region’s largest outdoor skating rink in the winter and a splash park in the summer.

The space hosts events year-round including the Fall for Local Markets, The Shipyards Festival,  The Shipyards Night Market,  Vancouver’s North Shore Craft Beer Week, and more!

Throughout the shoulder season, the Shipyard Commons will revert to an outdoor covered space suitable for events, gatherings, and public enjoyment.

Shipyards Commons is a public plaza in The Shipyards in Lower Lonsdale. Home to a splash park in the summer, an ice-skating plaza in the winter and the covered outdoor space hosts events throughout the year!

Shipyards Commons Skate Plaza

The City of North Vancouver’s Shipyard Commons outdoor skate plaza is the region’s largest outdoor skating rink. The rink is located on the waterfront at The Shipyards and is set against the beautiful backdrop of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains.

Know before you go:

• The Skate Plaza closes daily for ice cleaning at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes.
• Peak skate times are evenings and weekends, so please be prepared for longer waits during these hours.
• As an outdoor rink, the condition of the ice surface fluctuates with wind, humidity and temperatures. The ice is monitored regularly and there may be times when the Skate Plaza has to close unexpectedly.

Rentals

• Skate rentals (limited quantities) are available at a cost of $7 for adults, $5 for kids.
• Debit and credit card payments are accepted.

Shipyards Commons Splash Park

The free Shipyards Commons Splash Park is the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer’s day. The splash park is completely free and is open in the summer season from the Victoria Day long weekend to Labour Day. Bring a picnic to enjoy at the picnic tables or grab lunch at one of the businesses nearby such as theSeaside Provisions,  or pick up ice cream at Welcome Parlour.

Seasonal Hours of Operation
Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm until September 6 when we transition to a seasonal Skate Plaza.
